Project Manager - Data Centre Build

Wolviston Management Services are pleased to be supporting our client in the recruitment of an experienced Project Manager to support the delivery of a major data centre project.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to take ownership of a complex, fast-paced construction project within the rapidly growing data centre sector.
You will be responsible for coordinating the project from planning and mobilisation through construction, installation, commissioning and final handover, ensuring delivery against programme, commercial, quality and HSE requirements.
Working closely with the client, design teams, site management, subcontractors and supply chain, you will provide strong leadership throughout the project lifecycle and ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required technical standard.

The Role
As Project Manager, you will take responsibility for the successful delivery of the project, coordinating all relevant construction and engineering activities.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Take overall responsibility for the planning, coordination and delivery of the data centre project.
  • Develop, manage and maintain project programmes, ensuring key milestones and completion dates are achieved.
  • Coordinate site activities across engineering, construction, HVAC/MEP installation and commissioning.
  • Manage project mobilisation through to completion, testing, commissioning and client handover.
  • Act as a key point of contact between our client, principal contractor, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Lead regular project progress meetings and provide clear reporting against programme, cost, quality, safety and project risks.
  • Work closely with design and engineering teams to ensure technical information, drawings and specifications are effectively communicated and delivered.
  • Coordinate procurement activities and ensure materials, plant and equipment are available in line with the construction programme.
  • Manage subcontractors and specialist suppliers, monitoring performance, quality and programme delivery.
  • Identify project risks, delays and technical challenges at an early stage and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Monitor project costs, variations and change control while supporting the commercial management of the contract.
  • Ensure all works are completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, RAMS and relevant standards.
  • Maintain excellent standards of health, safety and environmental performance across the project.
  • Support quality inspections, snagging, testing and commissioning activities.
  • Ensure project documentation, records and handover information are maintained accurately throughout the project.
  • Drive the project through commissioning, practical completion and final handover to the client.
About You
We are looking for an established Project Manager with experience delivering complex construction, building services or MEP projects.
Ideally, you will have:
  • Proven Project Management experience within data centres, mission-critical facilities, major MEP projects or technically complex construction environments.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical building services.
  • Experience managing HVAC installation packages would be particularly advantageous.
  • Experience taking projects from mobilisation and construction through testing, commissioning and handover.
  • Strong knowledge of construction programmes, project planning and critical path management.
  • Experience managing subcontractors, suppliers and multidisciplinary site teams.
  • Good commercial awareness, including variations, change control, procurement and cost management.
  • Strong understanding of construction HSE requirements and safe systems of work.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and project documentation.
  • Excellent client-facing and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities within a demanding project environment.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving project risks and delivery challenges.
Experience specifically within the data centre sector would be highly desirable. However, candidates with strong transferable experience delivering complex HVAC/MEP packages within other critical environments will also be considered.
Relevant Project Management, Construction, Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services qualifications would be advantageous, alongside appropriate site safety qualifications.
